32 years.

32 years ago I married my best friend.  I'm not sure I knew he was my best friend then.  We had both been divorced, were finding our way again.  We were buying a house together and needed to be married to qualify for a VA loan (lest you think we only married because of a house, we were engaged and the house purchase just hastened things up!)  Off to Reno we went, just the two of us, in the middle of tax season!  Yikes! We got married on a Friday and we were back to work on Sunday! Some honeymoon! Four days later we got the biggest surprise of our life when we found out I was pregnant. Not planned and not expected as my doctor had told me I would probably never have children.  Married life wasn't starting out the way we envisioned. We hung in there.  Like all marriages we've had our share of rough times, but our commitment to each other and our marriage, our love and respect for each other keeps us going. He is my best friend, the one I want to continue to grow old with. He supports me, encourages me,  helps fulfill my dreams. I can't imagine life without him.

Happy anniversary, Hubbers! I love you.

  1. Wow! I cannot believe how similar our stories are! First of all, I gave my husband that same Pooh card for his birthday last year!

Also, my husband and I only knew each other 2 days before I moved to Monterey (we met in Kansas while he was in the Army) - 4 days later he called to ask me to marry him. 3 months later, after he left the Army, he sent me a plane ticket to come meet his family in Arlington, VA. They didn't like me, so instead of living together until we could figure out how to bring our families together for a wedding, we flew to Reno on Friday the 13th of December 1985 - (my parents drove up from Monterey to meet us there!) - We were married the next afternoon and back in Arlington on Sunday evening. On Monday morning we rented a condo in Reston and began our lives together! Thankfully we only stayed in VA another year - In 1986 we relocated to Monterey to be closer to my family! :) It may not have been the most conventional start to a marriage but like you, I cannot imagine life without him! xo

    1. Thank you, Janet! Sometimes these relationship things just don't happen like they do in the movies, but they can work!! Love your cookie-making adventures. I have two more weeks of tax season then hope to be back baking and such again soon!
